Background
The sports field was recognized as a safety hazard due to the rough surface and the lack of turf coverage throughout the year. The school needed a safe and durable surface for student recreation.
Project details
The objective of the project was to create a safe sports field for all-year-round use.
After thorough preparations, the field was planted by cultivating kikuyu stolons into the soil. This is an effective, low cost method of establishing a kikuyu surface. Kikuyu was chosen as the preferred turf variety for this sports field due to its hard wearing and drought tolerant characteristics.
All fertilizing, mowing and weed control was undertaken by Vivesco during the establishment period of this project.
