Project: Columba Catholic Primary School
Location: Bunyip, Victoria
Date: July 2003 - April 2004
Background
This school in Gippsland approached Vivesco to construct a new sports field facility on the sloping paddocks next to the school.
Project details
The object of this project was to construct a quality, safe sports field for student use throughout the year. Water conservation was a priority.
Major excavation works were undertaken involving the stripping of topsoil, excavation of nearly 3,000 cubic metres of clay, and then reinstating the topsoil. A drainage system was also installed at this time
Kikuyu was chosen as the preferred turf variety for this site due to its hard wearing and drought tolerant characteristics. Turf coverage was established by cultivating kikuyu stolons into the soil.
Vivesco managed the entire project from the design phase through to the on-going maintenance of the sports field.
